ABOUT BRETT
The short, one sentence way to describe my life at the moment is that in May 2015 I graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. I earned my degree in Christian Ministries with a concentration in youth ministry and Biblical Studies. I also received a minor in English Language and Literature with a concentration in creative writing.
But that description is way too technical. It feels like you are reading a resume. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My passion for writing began in my childhood. I remember sitting in my bedroom with my brother making stop-motion movies with Legos and writing the scripts (those scripts are now hidden deep in the annals of my computer never to be seen again).
In my high school years, I had the dream of becoming a sports columnist at a newspaper and developed a passion for writing. However, during my senior year of high school, I realized that God had other plans for me. After an internship in the youth ministry at my church, I sensed God calling me into a life of full-time ministry.
For a short while, I thought that this call meant putting my dream of becoming a writer on hold while I set my sights on doing youth ministry in a church. It was in my sophomore year at Gordon though that I discovered that these worlds of ministry and writing do not have to exist on separate plains. I took a class offered in my ministry major on curriculum development and I believe that this is a major piece of my calling.
I have also found in my time at Gordon that writing has become an amazing medium for me to share more about my story growing up with a physical disability (Cerebral Palsy, or C.P. for short).
